Moscow Exchange is preparing to expand its crypto derivatives business with perpetual futures tied to Bitcoin and Ethereum indices, according to executives cited by local media. The new contracts are expected to arrive in September.
The move adds to a lineup that already includes monthly and quarterly crypto futures on several tokens and comes just before most of Russia’s new digital currency law takes effect on September 1.
Perpetual futures planned for BTC and ETH
Russia’s largest stock market operator plans to introduce perpetual futures based on Bitcoin and Ethereum, widening its existing range of crypto-linked derivatives. The contracts are expected to track the underlying BTC and ETH indices rather than the spot assets themselves.
Perpetual futures differ from standard dated contracts because they do not have a fixed expiry. Instead, they are carried overnight and automatically rolled into the next trading day.
Part of a broader derivatives push
The exchange has already listed monthly and quarterly futures tied to several digital assets, including Solana, Ripple and Tron. According to the report, Moscow Exchange ultimately wants to expand its crypto derivatives offering to around 10 coins.
Executives also indicated that the exchange is considering a separate expansion into perpetual futures linked to about 20 foreign stocks. The names mentioned in that reported plan include Amazon, AMD, Tesla and Netflix.
Launch timing aligns with new Russian law
The planned September debut comes as Russia prepares to implement its new law, titled On Digital Currency and Digital Rights. The legislation is due to enter into force on September 1.
Under the law, non-qualified investors will be allowed to invest in crypto and related products within certain limits, broadening access compared with the current framework. The timing means the new MOEX contracts are set to arrive just as the legal regime for digital currency products becomes more permissive.
What is confirmed so far
At this stage, the reported launch window is September, and the products identified are perpetual futures on Bitcoin and Ethereum. The exchange’s existing crypto derivatives business and its longer-term goal of adding more coins provide the clearest indication of the direction of travel.
No further contract details were provided in the source report, including exact listing dates or investor limits under the new law. The next confirmed milestone is the September 1 start of the digital currency legislation, followed by the planned rollout of the new MOEX products later in the month.
