Kraken said it is working with MEXC to receive users in the Netherlands as MEXC closes its local offering. The arrangement covers both spot and derivatives clients and is intended to support affected customers during the transition.
The move comes as MEXC winds down its Netherlands business as part of what Kraken described as a broader regional strategy realignment. Kraken is positioning itself as the destination venue for those referred users, emphasizing its European licenses, euro payment rails and proof-of-reserves reporting.
Migration plan for Dutch users
According to Kraken, MEXC will refer its Netherlands-based clients to the exchange while it exits that market. Kraken said the partnership includes users of both spot trading and derivatives products.
Neither company outlined detailed timelines or user totals in the source announcement. Kraken described the setup as a transition arrangement aimed at helping affected clients move to an alternative platform as MEXC reduces its services in the country.
Kraken highlights European authorizations
In announcing the partnership, Kraken pointed to what it called a deep regulatory footprint in Europe. The company said it has held authorization under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets framework through the Central Bank of Ireland since June 2025.
Kraken also said it has MiFID authorization from Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission for derivatives, as well as an electronic money institution authorization from the Central Bank of Ireland. Based on those approvals, Kraken said it can offer clients a single licensed venue for both spot crypto activity and financial instruments.
Services offered to referred clients
Kraken said the referred Netherlands clients would gain access to more than 600 crypto assets, tokenized equities and perpetual futures on its platform. It also highlighted EUR fiat rails as part of the package available during the migration.
The exchange further said it provides quarterly independently verified proof of reserves. In addition, Kraken said transition-related support would be made available to users referred by MEXC during the migration process.
What is confirmed next
The confirmed next step is the referral of MEXC’s Netherlands users to Kraken while MEXC completes the wind-down of its local offering. The announcement does not say when the process will finish or whether service terms will change for individual clients.
For now, the companies have framed the arrangement as a handover designed to give Dutch users a regulated alternative in Europe as MEXC pulls back from the Netherlands market.
