Grayscale has expanded in-kind subscriptions across 10 digital asset investment products, giving eligible investors a way to exchange crypto tokens directly for fund shares instead of first converting their holdings into cash.
The firm said the change applies to a mix of ETFs and trusts, including the Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF, Ethereum Staking Mini ETF, and products linked to Avalanche, Chainlink, Dogecoin, Hyperliquid, Solana, Sui, XRP, and Zcash. Minimum investments range from roughly $80,300 to $364,800, depending on the product.
Direct token-for-share access broadens
The new setup allows qualifying investors to contribute digital assets in kind, meaning the underlying tokens can be delivered directly in exchange for shares of the relevant Grayscale product. In practice, that removes the need to sell crypto for cash before subscribing to a fund.
Grayscale framed the expansion as a way to make entry into its investment products more operationally efficient for investors already holding the relevant assets. The option is available only to eligible investors and remains subject to each product’s own terms as well as intermediary requirements.
Ten products are included
The expanded in-kind subscription program covers 10 Grayscale offerings. The lineup includes the Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF and Ethereum Staking Mini ETF, along with ETFs or trusts tied to Avalanche, Chainlink, Dogecoin, Hyperliquid, Solana, Sui, XRP, and Zcash.
According to the firm, minimum subscription amounts differ by product, with thresholds starting at about $80,300 and reaching about $364,800 at the high end. The article did not specify the exact minimum attached to each individual fund.
Grayscale’s rationale for the change
Grayscale said in-kind subscriptions can help reduce the burden of self-custody and may lower transaction costs for investors who would otherwise need to liquidate tokens before investing. The company also pointed to broader portfolio-management advantages that can come with holding fund shares instead of managing tokens directly.
Those potential benefits, as described by the firm, include access to traditional brokerage and retirement accounts, the ability to use holdings as collateral, and other tools commonly associated with conventional investment portfolios.
Regulatory backdrop and what comes next
The move follows the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s approval of in-kind creations and redemptions for crypto exchange-traded products in July 2025. That decision established the regulatory basis for fund structures that can handle direct transfers of digital assets rather than relying only on cash transactions.
Grayscale said the expanded offering responds to growing demand for more secure and efficient ways to manage crypto exposure as the market matures. The next confirmed step is implementation through the firm’s existing products, with participation depending on investor eligibility, product-specific conditions, and the requirements of relevant intermediaries.
