Coinbase is preparing to expand its UK offering by opening access to more than 170 derivatives contracts for eligible professional investors. The launch will begin in the coming weeks and continue over the following months, covering products tied to crypto, commodities, equities, and foreign exchange.

The exchange said the new lineup will include futures, perpetual contracts, and crypto options, with leverage of up to 50x available on certain products. The move follows Coinbase receiving UK investment services authorization, which allows it to offer regulated financial instruments alongside its existing crypto products.

Broad derivatives rollout planned

According to the announcement, qualifying UK professional investors will be the first group to receive access as the rollout progresses. Coinbase said availability will be expanded gradually rather than introduced all at once.

The planned range spans more than 170 contracts across several asset classes, widening the company’s local product menu beyond digital assets alone. By combining crypto-linked products with instruments tied to traditional markets, Coinbase is positioning the UK platform as a broader trading venue for professional clients.

What products are included

The new offering is set to cover perpetuals, dated futures, and crypto options. Coinbase said perpetual contracts will offer round-the-clock access and no expiry date, with leverage of up to 50x.

Dated futures, by contrast, will carry fixed settlement dates and provide leverage of up to 20x. For crypto options, the exchange said professional investors will be able to use calls, puts, spreads, and other strategies.

As with other leveraged products, the company noted that leverage can increase market exposure but also raises the scale of potential losses.

How the UK authorization fits in

Coinbase linked the expansion to its UK investment services authorization, which enables the company to provide regulated financial instruments in addition to crypto products. That authorization gives the exchange a basis for widening its product set in the market.

The company also described the launch as part of a broader strategy to bring spot trading, derivatives, and other instruments together on a single platform. In practice, that means UK professional clients would be able to access a wider mix of markets through the same venue as the rollout continues.

Next phase of the launch

For now, the confirmed next step is the phased introduction of the contracts to eligible UK professional investors over the coming weeks and months. Coinbase has not said in the supplied announcement that the full product set will be available immediately.

What is confirmed is the scope of the initial plan: more than 170 contracts, several major asset classes, and a professional-investor focus at launch. Any broader expansion beyond that remains outside the details provided so far.
