Coinbase has begun rolling out a new derivatives offering in the UK for eligible professional clients, starting with more than 170 contracts across several asset classes. The lineup includes perpetual futures, dated futures and crypto options, with access set to expand progressively in the coming weeks and months.

According to a statement the company provided to crypto.news, the products are limited to investors who meet Coinbase’s eligibility requirements and qualify as professional clients. The rollout is designed to cover cryptocurrencies, commodities, equities and foreign exchange, although options will be confined to crypto.

Perpetual futures form the core of the launch

Perpetual futures represent the largest portion of the initial offering. Coinbase said the product supports more than 170 assets and is available for trading around the clock, reflecting the 24/7 structure commonly associated with crypto markets.

The contracts allow professional investors to take both long and short positions. Coinbase also said they can be used for delta-neutral hedging strategies, with leverage available at up to 50x.

Dated futures add fixed-expiry contracts

Alongside perpetuals, Coinbase is introducing dated futures tied to commodity and financial contracts. These products come with fixed settlement dates and offer leverage of up to 20x.

The company said dated futures differ from perpetual contracts in one key respect: they do not involve ongoing funding rates. Instead, the cost of maintaining the position is built into the contract price when the trade is entered.

Crypto options include strategy tools

Coinbase is also adding crypto options for UK professional clients. The company said these contracts will let investors trade both calls and puts using either single-leg positions or more complex multi-leg approaches, including spreads and combinations.

To support those trades, the interface will include payoff diagrams and a strategy builder. Coinbase said those tools are intended to show potential profit, loss and breakeven levels before a trade is placed.

Access remains limited to qualified clients

The new derivatives suite is not being opened to all users. Coinbase said access is restricted to investors who satisfy its eligibility standards and meet the definition of professional clients.

The next confirmed step is a broader phased rollout. In its statement, Coinbase said additional eligible UK professional clients will gain access over the coming weeks and months as the company expands the list of available contracts across crypto, commodities, equities and foreign exchange.
