Binance’s Android app is no longer showing up on Google Play in some European Union countries, adding to questions about the exchange’s position under the bloc’s Markets in Crypto-Assets framework, or MiCA. The restriction does not appear to apply across the entire EU.

Partial removal across EU markets

A user in Spain told Cointelegraph that the Binance app could not be found through Google Play searches. The app was still available there through Oppo’s App Market, an alternative Android app store used on Oppo devices.

Checks in Poland produced a different result. In that market, the Binance app remained listed on Google Play, suggesting the disappearance is limited to certain jurisdictions rather than a region-wide takedown.

MiCA questions in focus

The issue surfaced publicly last week, when OKX Europe CEO Erald Ghoos wrote on X that Binance’s Android app had been removed because of MiCA licensing requirements. That statement has not been confirmed by Binance.

Cointelegraph said it contacted Binance for comment, but the company had not responded by the time the article was published. Without a public explanation from the exchange or Google, the exact reason for the app’s absence in specific EU countries remains unclear.

Recent regulatory backdrop

The reports follow other developments tied to Binance’s EU operations. Weeks earlier, the company withdrew its MiCA application in Greece shortly before the transitional period under the framework ended on July 1.

Binance later informed some users in the EU that access to certain services would be restricted. At the same time, it said withdrawals would continue to be available.

What is known so far

At this stage, the confirmed facts are limited but significant: the Binance Android app is not visible on Google Play in at least one EU country, it remains accessible in at least one other EU market, and Binance had not publicly explained the discrepancy at publication time. The uneven availability points to a partial regional restriction rather than a blanket EU-wide removal.

The development adds another layer of uncertainty around how major crypto platforms are adapting their consumer-facing services as MiCA’s licensing framework takes effect across the European Union.
