Yuga Labs has introduced Mudwater, a trading card game built around Bored Ape imagery that launches on Solana even as the core Bored Ape Yacht Club and Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFTs remain on Ethereum. The rollout combines physical and digital cards and gives existing BAYC and MAYC holders priority access to the first wave of product.

To enable claims, Yuga airdropped a Totem to every BAYC and MAYC token. The Totem uses ERC-6551, a standard that gives each NFT its own wallet, and holders need it to redeem card packs tied to their Ape assets.

How access is being allocated

The initial distribution is weighted toward current Yuga community members. Each Bored Ape unlocks 10 packs, while each Mutant Ape unlocks two packs. Total supply is capped at 10,000 boxes.

Mudwater packs are sold in a boxed format, with 24 packs per box and 10 cards in each pack. Across the full release, that works out to 240,000 packs and 2.4 million cards.

What is inside the set

The set includes 120 pieces of BAYC artwork and spans both physical and digital collectibles. Yuga said the lineup includes foil variants as well as a small number of top-tier chase items.

At the top of the release are eight serialized one-of-one “cracked-ice” grail cards, positioned as the rarest pulls in the set. Existing BAYC holders are able to claim roughly 42% of the entire set before any open trading prices are established, according to the source material.

Why the Solana launch stands out

Mudwater places a Bored Ape-branded product on Solana without moving the original BAYC collection off Ethereum. That makes the release an example of Yuga extending a well-known Ethereum NFT brand into a different blockchain environment while keeping the underlying profile-picture assets where they are.

The move also points to a broader interest in tokenized collectibles that can circulate across rival chains. In that framing, Mudwater serves as a test of whether a blue-chip Ethereum brand can generate fresh demand on Solana through a new format rather than through the original NFTs themselves.

What comes next

For now, the confirmed next step is the claim process for BAYC and MAYC holders through the airdropped Totems, which are required to access packs. With supply fixed at 10,000 boxes and early allocation reserved for existing holders, the project’s first phase centers on how much of the release is absorbed before broader price discovery begins.

The launch may also offer Yuga a practical signal on cross-network liquidity for future NFT-related products, though that remains a stated aim rather than a confirmed outcome at this stage.
