Worldcoin’s token fell about 10% over 24 hours after the World Foundation disclosed a large funding round built around locked WLD sales. The nonprofit said the capital will be used to expand World ID across enterprise platforms, consumer applications, and AI agents, even as the token remains under pressure in the market.
Funding round and terms
The World Foundation sold roughly 217.4 million WLD and raised about $52.5 million in the transaction. The round was led by Pantera Capital, and the tokens are subject to a 12-month lockup that runs until July 2027. The Foundation also received $47.5 million in USDC.
Based on on-chain data cited in the source report, the sale price worked out to about $0.2415 per WLD. The deal came after an earlier over-the-counter sale in March 2026, when the Foundation reportedly sold about $65 million worth of tokens at roughly $0.27 each.
Buyers and strategy
Pantera described the round as a bet on business demand rather than retail trading activity. Its view, as summarized in the report, is tied to growing interest in Proof of Human systems as AI development speeds up and as enterprise use cases begin to take shape.
Eightco Holdings also participated as a buyer and incumbent investor. As of July 8, the company reportedly held 283 million WLD in treasury. Earlier Worldcoin funding rounds had included backing from Andreessen Horowitz and Bain Capital Crypto.
Market pressure on WLD
Despite the lockup, the sale landed during a period of continued weakness for WLD. The token was trading near $0.34, down more than 10% on the day and about 32.8% over the past 30 days, according to the source material.
The report said a large portion of the tokens was sold into an already fragile market. By April, around 4.9 billion of the project’s 10 billion WLD supply had been unlocked. Daily emissions had fallen, but that reduction did not prevent renewed selling pressure following disclosure of the round.
Adoption metrics and what comes next
World Network says it has more than 39 million users, over 18 million Orb verifications, and 475 million World ID proofs issued. The Foundation is positioning the fresh funding as a way to convert that footprint into broader adoption across businesses, apps, and AI-related services.
Whether the fundraising ultimately eases or worsens market concerns may depend on what happens before the lockup expires in July 2027. For now, the token sale has added to scrutiny around supply, pricing, and the pace at which enterprise demand for World ID can materialize.
