Two brothers from Waller, Texas, have received lengthy federal prison terms after prosecutors said they carried out a violent home invasion and kidnapping in Minnesota to steal cryptocurrency worth more than $8 million.
Raymond Christian Garcia and Isiah Angelo Garcia were sentenced on October 29, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Donovan W. Frank. The court handed Raymond Garcia a 180-month sentence and Isiah Garcia a 186-month sentence.
Home invasion and demands for crypto access
Federal prosecutors said the brothers traveled from Texas to Grant, Minnesota, where they held a family at gunpoint inside their home for more than nine hours. During the attack, the family was restrained with zip ties while the defendants demanded access to one victim’s cryptocurrency accounts.
According to the government’s account, the brothers were seeking a larger transfer than the victim was initially able to make. Prosecutors described the conduct as targeted, deliberate and extremely violent.
Forced trip to a cabin in upstate Minnesota
When the transfer did not meet their expectations, prosecutors said the brothers forced the victim to drive Isiah Garcia to the family’s cabin in upstate Minnesota. There, the victim was compelled to retrieve additional cryptocurrency storage devices.
Authorities said the victim was then forced to transfer more funds, bringing the total amount taken to more than $8 million in cryptocurrency.
Arrest after 911 call
The brothers fled after the victim’s son called 911, according to prosecutors. Law enforcement later tracked them to the Houston area and arrested them near Houston, Texas.
In comments released with the case, officials said the attack not only terrorized the family but also shook the surrounding community because of its duration and violence.
Sentences and what comes next
Judge Donovan W. Frank imposed the sentences on October 29, with Raymond Christian Garcia receiving 180 months in prison and Isiah Angelo Garcia receiving 186 months.
The sentencing closes a major stage in the federal case. Prosecutors framed the punishment as an important step for the victims as they recover from what authorities described as a prolonged, armed abduction and theft.
