Strategy disclosed on Oct. 12 that it bought another 250 bitcoin between Oct. 5 and Oct. 11, spending about $21.5 million and lifting its total holdings to 848,250 BTC. The filing followed a social media teaser from executive chairman Michael Saylor a day earlier suggesting another purchase was coming.

The company paired the bitcoin buy with a much larger capital action elsewhere on its balance sheet, saying it repurchased nearly 1.93 million STRC preferred shares for about $192.4 million. It also reported roughly $5.5 billion in combined U.S. dollar reserves and cash as of Oct. 11.

Latest purchase adds modestly to a very large treasury

According to Strategy’s Monday disclosure, the company acquired 250 BTC at an average price of $86,194 per coin, including fees and expenses. That purchase increased the company’s bitcoin treasury to 848,250 BTC.

Strategy said its cumulative bitcoin investment now totals about $64 billion, with an average acquisition price of $75,444 per bitcoin. The new purchase was small relative to the scale of its existing holdings, but it extended the company’s long-running pattern of adding to its treasury when capital is available.

How the company funded the purchase

The filing said about $21 million of the latest bitcoin purchase came from proceeds generated by selling 125,183 shares of MSTR common stock. The remaining roughly $500,000 was funded from existing cash.

Those figures indicate the company relied primarily on equity sale proceeds rather than cash on hand for this particular transaction. Strategy did not present the purchase as a stand-alone event, but as part of its broader treasury management activity during the week ended Oct. 11.

STRC buyback far exceeded the bitcoin outlay

Alongside the bitcoin update, Strategy said it repurchased 1,932,145 shares of its variable-rate Series A perpetual Stretch preferred stock, known as STRC, for approximately $192.4 million.

The company added that $354.8 million remains available under its preferred stock repurchase program. Based on the amounts disclosed, the STRC repurchase represented a much larger use of capital than the week’s bitcoin purchase.

Cash position and the next confirmed data point

As of Oct. 11, Strategy reported a U.S. dollar reserve of about $4.88 billion and additional cash of roughly $640.5 million. Combined, those balances came to approximately $5.5 billion at the time of the disclosure.

The latest update shows Strategy continuing two activities at once: adding to its bitcoin treasury and buying back preferred shares while maintaining substantial dollar liquidity. For now, the next confirmed step is whatever the company discloses in future filings or public updates following this Oct. 12 report.
