Strategy has resumed buying Bitcoin after several months in which it had been selling portions of its holdings under a monetization program. The company said it acquired 950 BTC over the past week for about $76 million at an average price of $79,670 per coin.
That purchase lifted Strategy’s total Bitcoin holdings to 846,000 BTC. The update emerged as Bitcoin rose more than 6% on Monday and moved above $86,000, a level the source article described as the asset’s highest price since January.
Buying resumes after a pause
The latest transaction is Strategy’s first reported Bitcoin purchase since August 31. In recent months, the company had shifted away from its long-running buy-only posture and instead sold Bitcoin in a series of transactions.
According to the source article, Strategy sold a combined $432 million worth of BTC across five separate sales beginning in May. Those disposals were carried out under the company’s BTC monetization program, which it introduced to strengthen cash reserves and help fund dividend payments.
Holdings grow as market rebounds
With the addition of 950 BTC, Strategy’s balance rose to 846,000 Bitcoin, preserving its position as the largest corporate holder of the asset. The company was also described as the first public company to adopt Bitcoin as its sole treasury reserve asset.
The purchase was disclosed as Bitcoin climbed sharply on Monday. The source article said the cryptocurrency had surpassed $86,000 and was trading at $86,045 at the time of writing.
Saylor addresses the shift in messaging
The company’s recent sales drew attention because they contrasted with years of public messaging from Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, who had often urged investors to “never sell” their Bitcoin.
Saylor said that stance referred to his personal holdings rather than Strategy’s treasury management. He said he has not sold any of his own Bitcoin, while noting that Strategy, as a public company, has disclosed since 2020 that it may buy or sell BTC as part of capital management. He also said the company’s underlying conviction in Bitcoin has not changed.
Preferred stock activity and what comes next
Alongside the Bitcoin update, Saylor said Strategy repurchased $174 million of STRC, the company’s perpetual preferred stock that carries a 12.00% annual dividend. The source article said STRC was structured around a par value of about $100 and was trading at $98.91.
The latest confirmed step is that Strategy has moved back into the market as a buyer after months in which its disclosed Bitcoin activity centered on sales. Whether the company continues accumulating or returns to monetization will depend on future disclosures.
