Soluna and Bitdeer have widened their agreement at Project Kati 1 in South Texas, adding about 7 megawatts of Bitcoin mining capacity to the site. The amendment lifts Bitdeer’s total planned deployment there to 35 MW, with Soluna saying the added equipment should be in place by November.
The companies are making the change only weeks after announcing their original 28 MW arrangement. Once the extra capacity is installed, Bitdeer’s deployment at the wind-powered facility is expected to reach roughly 2.42 exahashes per second, according to Soluna.
An early expansion at Project Kati 1
Soluna disclosed the latest expansion on September 28, saying Bitdeer will add approximately 7 MW of mining equipment at Project Kati 1. The new commitment increases Bitdeer’s total footprint at the site from the 28 MW agreed in August to 35 MW.
The company said the additional capacity fully subscribes the K1BC phase of Project Kati 1. In practical terms, that means the capacity assigned to that part of the project has now been spoken for.
How the arrangement is structured
Under the agreement, Bitdeer provides and owns the mining machines, while Soluna supplies the data-center location, power and operating infrastructure. The two sides then share the mining proceeds generated by the deployment.
Soluna described the buildout as using Bitdeer’s Sealminer A2 Pro Air units. With the extra 7 MW installed, Bitdeer’s total hash rate at the site is expected to rise to about 2.42 EH/s.
Different from a standard hosting contract
The deal is not framed as a typical mining hosting arrangement, where a site operator is generally paid for rack space and electricity. Soluna’s co-mining model gives it exposure to the Bitcoin output from the machines rather than relying only on fixed hosting income.
For Bitdeer, the structure offers access to power and operating infrastructure without having to develop another site from the ground up. The expansion before the first deployment has fully ramped suggests the companies are moving quickly to increase capacity at the location.
Site background and what comes next
Project Kati 1 is an 83 MW facility in Willacy County, Texas, connected with wind generation. Soluna’s broader strategy centers on placing energy-intensive computing near renewable power that might otherwise be curtailed or left underused.
Bitcoin mining has been the primary workload for that model, though Soluna has also been positioning its sites for other high-performance computing uses. The next confirmed step in this case is the expected November completion of the added 7 MW, which would complete the latest expansion and leave the K1BC phase fully booked.
