Optimism’s OP token climbed sharply after Uniswap said Unichain will move its production operations to OP Enterprise, a change that hands key infrastructure duties to the Optimism side while leaving the chain itself unchanged for users.
CoinGecko data cited in the report showed OP up as much as 19.4% over 24 hours at $0.1621 on October 14. The token later gave back part of the move and was trading around $0.156 at the time of writing, still up about 14% on the day.
Price and volume jump
The move stood out because it arrived during a weaker stretch for the broader crypto market. Even after easing from its intraday peak, OP was still up 28% over seven days and 64% over 30 days, though it remained down nearly 68% from a year earlier.
Trading activity rose alongside the price. OP posted roughly $226 million in 24-hour volume, a 128% increase from the previous day. According to the report, the token had not traded above the level reached on October 14 since mid-May, when it touched $0.166.
What Unichain is changing
The catalyst was Uniswap’s announcement that Unichain will transition production operations to OP Enterprise. An October 9 update said the testnet migration was scheduled for October 13, with mainnet migration set for October 29.
Under the new arrangement, Optimism will run production infrastructure for Unichain across both mainnet and testnet. That includes sequencers, remote procedure call services, monitoring, and incident response.
What stays the same for users
The migration does not alter core chain details. Unichain’s chain ID, contracts, balances, and current Uniswap v2, v3, and v4 deployments are set to remain unchanged.
The report said users are not expected to see changes to their existing experience as a result of the handover. In other words, the operational shift is aimed at the back end rather than the visible structure of the network or its deployed applications.
Interoperability plans and market backdrop
The handover is also described as preparation for native interoperability across the OP Stack. Once that functionality is live, users are expected to be able to move assets, starting with ETH, between Unichain and other OP Stack networks without relying on a bridge.
That narrative helped OP outperform on a day when several other large crypto assets were under pressure. The source report said Bitcoin had fallen as low as $80,850 before rebounding toward $84,000, while daily liquidations across crypto markets topped $800 million. It also noted recent declines in several altcoins, including NEAR, Cardano, Hyperliquid, and Zcash, although Zcash later recovered some ground.
