Mt. Gox rehabilitation trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi has moved the deadline for completing creditor repayments to Oct. 31, 2027, from Oct. 31, 2026, according to a notice dated Oct. 16 and approved by the court. The latest change is the fourth extension since the original Oct. 31, 2023 target.

The trustee said repayments are largely finished for creditors who completed the required procedures and did not encounter problems. Even so, a significant number of claims remain unresolved because some creditors have not completed the necessary steps and others were not paid due to issues that arose during the repayment process.

Deadline pushed back across all repayment tracks

The revised schedule applies to the three pillars of the civil rehabilitation plan: the Base Repayment, the Early Lump-Sum Repayment, and the Intermediate Repayment. The new cutoff is Oct. 31, 2027, in Japan Standard Time.

In the notice, the trustee said more time is needed in order to make repayments to creditors to the extent reasonably practicable. The document does not state how much remains to be paid, which assets are still to be distributed, or when any further payments may be made.

Why some creditors are still waiting

According to the trustee, two groups remain unpaid. One consists of creditors who have not yet completed the procedures required to receive payment. The other includes creditors who were not paid because of issues during the repayment process.

For creditors who have already met the requirements and had no complications, payments are described as largely complete. Those seeking more information were directed to the claims portal, although the notice warned that responses could be delayed because of a heavy volume of inquiries.

A fourth extension since 2023

This is the fourth time the repayment deadline has been pushed back. The original deadline was Oct. 31, 2023, and the schedule has been extended by roughly one year each autumn since then.

The repeated revisions underscore how long-running the Mt. Gox rehabilitation process has become, even after thousands of creditors had already been repaid by 2025. The latest notice does not suggest that the overall process is complete, only that a broad portion of payments has been made where procedural requirements were satisfied.

What remains in the estate

The rehabilitation plan originally covered about 142,000 BTC, around 143,000 BCH, and roughly 69 billion yen in cash. The source article says about 34,000 BTC still remains in estate wallets.

For now, the next confirmed step is the new repayment completion deadline of Oct. 31, 2027. Beyond that date change, the trustee has not provided a fresh timeline for additional distributions or a breakdown of what assets may still be allocated to creditors.
