Mirae Asset Group says it has completed its acquisition of South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Korbit and plans to relaunch the business under a new name, Digital X. The group says the move is intended to broaden its digital-asset operations beyond exchange services and into tokenized real-world assets, security token offerings and stablecoins.
A new brand for a wider digital-asset strategy
According to Mirae Asset, the rebranding is meant to support a broader strategy that connects traditional finance with blockchain-based assets inside a single investment ecosystem. Chairman Park Hyeon-joo said the “X” in Digital X stands for infinite possibilities created where different forms of value meet an uncertain future.
The group said Digital X is expected to combine Mirae Asset’s background in conventional finance with Korbit’s experience in virtual assets. It described the planned platform as a key part of what it calls “Mirae Asset 3.0,” with digital assets positioned as one of the group’s central future business pillars.
Focus on tokenization, STOs and stablecoins
Mirae Asset identified three main areas for expansion: real-world asset tokenization, security token offerings and stablecoins. The company said it plans to turn traditional financial and physical assets such as stocks, bonds and real estate into blockchain-based tokens.
It also outlined plans for infrastructure that would allow digital assets to be traded and managed alongside more conventional financial products within one system. In the group’s description, Korbit is meant to develop from a crypto exchange into a broader investment platform that also provides market information and investor education.
Compliance and customer protection
The company said investor education and customer protection will be strengthened as part of the transition. It said operations would continue to follow anti-money laundering, know-your-customer, information security and fraud-detection standards.
Mirae Asset also said it would not market products that lack intrinsic value and that protecting customer assets and maintaining trust in the market would remain priorities. The group tied those goals to internal controls and risk-management systems.
What changes for Korbit users now
For the time being, Mirae Asset said Korbit’s corporate entity and current services will stay as they are. It stated that the change in controlling shareholder will not require separate customer consent or any additional action from users.
The group also said there would be no immediate changes to cryptocurrency trading, Korean won deposits and withdrawals, or the way customer funds are managed.
The announcement lays out Mirae Asset’s intended direction for Korbit after the acquisition rather than an immediate operational overhaul. While the exchange is set to be reintroduced as Digital X, the company says present-day customer services will continue without change for now as it pursues a larger digital-asset platform spanning tokenization, STOs and stablecoins.
