Lido said it has completed the wind-down of the regular clusters in its Simple DVT Module, marking the end of one phase in the staking protocol’s effort to use distributed validator technology in its infrastructure.
The update was posted on Lido’s governance forum on Sept. 18. It follows a DAO decision earlier this year to retire the regular Simple DVT clusters, with the governance record showing about 57.4 million LDO voting in favor and no votes cast against the proposal.
A testbed for distributed validators
Simple DVT was designed to bring distributed validator technology into Lido’s staking setup. Under that model, validator duties are shared across multiple operators rather than being controlled by a single party running one validator key and its supporting infrastructure.
That structure is intended to reduce the risk associated with depending on a lone validator operator. For Lido, it also offered a way to move toward a more distributed validator set while testing how the approach worked at scale.
Why the module was retired
According to the update, the shutdown should be seen as part of Lido’s broader infrastructure changes rather than as a rejection of distributed validators. As validator modules mature and the protocol’s staking architecture continues to develop, earlier cluster designs can become less necessary.
The DAO had already approved the retirement of the regular Simple DVT clusters earlier this year. The recorded result showed overwhelming support, with roughly 57.4 million LDO backing the proposal and no opposition votes registered.
Transition payments have started
Lido said the wind-down process itself has now been completed. It also reported that the first tranche of transition grants has been distributed to qualifying node operators.
The initial payment amounted to 0.175 stETH for each eligible participant, according to the governance update. The grants are part of the framework tied to the transition away from the regular Simple DVT clusters.
What changes for stETH holders
The update did not indicate any action for users holding stETH. The change affects the lower-level validator infrastructure that determines how Lido’s validators are organized and operated, rather than the user-facing token itself.
The immediate confirmed next step is that eligible node operators have begun receiving the first grant tranche under the transition plan. Beyond that, the wind-down closes out one implementation of DVT inside Lido while leaving the broader use of distributed validators in its architecture intact.
