Kaia has outlined a manual migration process for users in its current Public Delegation staking program as the network prepares to move to a permissionless structure. The change is tied to a new staking contract and a planned hard fork, according to a Nov. 6 blog post.

Users with KAIA already deposited under the existing program will need to withdraw their tokens from the current setup and stake them again in the new contract. Kaia said the transfer will not happen automatically.

Manual move required for existing stakers

Kaia said all KAIA deposited through the current Public Delegation program must be migrated to the new staking contract. The network described the shift as part of a broader move to a permissionless model that will allow anyone to participate in network operations.

Rather than transferring balances on behalf of users, Kaia will require each staker to complete the process themselves. That means submitting a withdrawal request, waiting through the required delay, retrieving the withdrawn KAIA, and then depositing it again into the new contract.

Key dates for the transition

The timetable begins with withdrawal requests opening on Nov. 17. Kaia said actual withdrawals, along with redeposits into the new staking contract, will start on Nov. 26.

Each withdrawal request will be subject to a seven-day waiting period. In practice, that means users cannot immediately move funds after filing a request and will need to follow the staged process set out by the network.

Portal changes and migration path

To support the transition, Kaia plans to add a dedicated Migration menu to the Kaia Portal. The company said this section will let users review their current staking status and move their KAIA to the new contract for the same Governance Council, or GC, that they had previously selected.

Kaia has not said that any automatic conversion will occur through the portal. Instead, the new interface appears intended to guide users through the required withdrawal and redeposit sequence.

Instructions to come and effect on CR Mission 1 records

Detailed migration instructions are scheduled for release on Nov. 13. That guidance is expected to clarify the operational steps users must take before withdrawals and redeposits begin later in the month.

Kaia also addressed CR Mission 1 participants, saying records that recognize contributions tied to existing KAIA staking will remain unchanged if users complete the migration on schedule. The next confirmed step is the publication of those detailed instructions, followed by the Nov. 17 opening of withdrawal requests.
