HashKey Exchange said it will begin offering Franklin Templeton’s tokenized U.S. government money market fund, grBENJI, to eligible investors in Asia starting August 24. The product will be listed through HashKey’s Earn channel and is designed to provide exposure to U.S. government money market instruments and U.S. dollar cash assets using blockchain-based infrastructure.
The offering will be limited to professional investors and will not be available to the Hong Kong public. HashKey said the launch adds a regulated real-world asset yield product to its platform at a time when tokenized Treasury and money market funds are becoming a more developed segment of digital assets.
Professional-investor launch through Earn
According to the announcement, grBENJI will be made available on HashKey Exchange’s Earn channel for eligible Asian investors. The fund invests primarily in U.S. government money market instruments and U.S. dollar cash assets, positioning it as a blockchain-enabled version of a traditionally conservative cash-management product.
HashKey Exchange noted that the product is restricted to professional investors. It also said the fund will not be offered to the public in Hong Kong, reflecting the limits under which the exchange is distributing the product.
Regulated exchange and jurisdiction limits
HashKey Exchange said it holds Type 1 and Type 7 licenses from Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission, which cover dealing in securities and providing automated trading services. The exchange also holds an anti-money-laundering license.
The company added that it does not serve users in mainland China, the United States and certain other jurisdictions. Those restrictions frame the rollout as a targeted regional offering rather than a broadly accessible public launch.
Both companies point to broader tokenization plans
Haiyang Ru, CEO of HashKey Exchange BG, described the partnership with Franklin Templeton as an important step for both the company and the wider Asian digital asset market. He said the addition of the Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Liquidity Fund to the Earn channel is meant to address institutional demand for compliant yield products linked to real-world assets.
Franklin Templeton also presented the launch as part of a larger distribution effort. Chetan Karkhanis, the firm’s senior vice president of digital assets client engagement, said the arrangement gives Franklin Templeton access to HashKey’s expanding base of digital-native banking and wealth platforms as well as established institutional clients.
Karkhanis added that the companies plan over time to move beyond tokenized money market funds into other tokenized products, using HashKey’s presence across Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Dubai and Bermuda.
Part of a growing tokenized Treasury market
The deal extends the reach of BENJI, Franklin Templeton’s tokenization platform, which already operates on several blockchains including Stellar, Polygon, Avalanche and BNB Chain. Franklin Templeton said it managed $1.80 trillion in assets as of July 31, 2026, and operates in more than 35 countries.
Tokenized Treasury products have become one of the more established areas within the real-world asset market. The source article notes that BlackRock’s BUIDL, tokenized by Securitize, has surpassed $2 billion in assets, underscoring the scale some of these products have reached.
The article also suggests that Franklin Templeton’s decision to distribute grBENJI through an Asian exchange, rather than only through its own platform, points to a strategy of working with regional venues that already have client relationships. For HashKey, the partnership adds a globally recognized asset manager to its Earn lineup as competition grows among Asian exchanges to offer regulated yield products backed by real-world assets.
Next step is whether the partnership broadens
The immediate confirmed step is the August 24 launch of grBENJI on HashKey Exchange for eligible professional investors in Asia. Beyond that, both companies have said they intend to expand into additional tokenized products over time.
Whether that expansion materializes may determine the longer-term significance of the partnership. For now, the collaboration centers on a single tokenized U.S. government money market fund offered under the exchange’s existing regulated framework and geographic restrictions.
