Ethereum core developers have delayed the planned Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet, cancelling the activation that had been scheduled for October 26, 2026 at 17:42:48 UTC, or epoch 132,352. No replacement date has been announced.
According to the Ethereum Foundation blog, the change was made to allow more investigation into how EIP-8037 may interact with mainnet smart contracts. The postponement affects both execution-layer and consensus-layer changes that had been tied to the Hoodi activation.
What the postponement changes
The updated Hoodi configuration removes the previously scheduled Amsterdam execution-layer activation and the Gloas consensus-layer activation. It also removes the gas-limit schedule that would have lifted Hoodi’s gas limit to 200 million at the same epoch.
The Ethereum Foundation said this is a rollback of configuration for a future upgrade rather than a reversal of Hoodi’s chain history. In practice, the October 26 activation is no longer scheduled, and the revised configuration contains no new epoch or timestamp for a replacement upgrade.
Reason for the delay
Core developers said the postponement is intended to give them more time to examine the interactions of EIP-8037 with mainnet smart contracts. The announcement did not provide a new timeline for that review or indicate when a new Hoodi activation date might be chosen.
The blog post also stressed that a future schedule will be announced later, leaving the testnet upgrade in a pending state for now.
Instructions for Hoodi operators
Node operators and validators on Hoodi were told to check both execution-layer and consensus-layer clients for guidance that reflects the postponed activation before October 26. Any software or custom network settings that still point to the old Glamsterdam activation time need to be updated to match the revised Hoodi configuration.
The Ethereum Foundation also cautioned operators not to assume that release tables from the earlier upgrade announcement already account for this change. Instead, they were directed to rely on client-team release notes and instructions that explicitly confirm the October 26 Hoodi activation has been removed.
Validator operators were additionally advised to review any related instructions covering validator clients, builder infrastructure, and external block-building tools.
Client releases and what comes next
The post said new client releases that incorporate the postponement will be added as they are confirmed. At the time of the announcement, Lodestar v1.50.1 was listed under consensus-layer Hoodi releases, while Besu 26.10.1 was listed under execution-layer Hoodi releases. Other client entries were still blank.
For application developers, the guidance was straightforward: do not plan Hoodi testing around an October 26 Glamsterdam activation. The announcement applies only to Hoodi, does not establish any Glamsterdam mainnet activation date, and requires no action from Ethereum mainnet users or ETH holders.
