Aave has advanced a proposal to add Maple Finance’s yield-bearing syrupUSDG token to the Aave V4 Global Dollar Hub, with collateral use enabled. The measure, published as a direct proposal to AIP, would allow syrupUSDG to be supplied as collateral on the hub if governance approves the listing.
Proposal targets collateral listing
The proposal seeks to onboard syrupUSDG to Aave’s Global Dollar Hub on V4 and explicitly includes collateral functionality. According to the forum post, risk parameters and the final market configuration are still to be updated by Risk Service Providers, with the ARFC expected to be revised accordingly.
Aave Labs said the listing is intended to expand the set of USDG-linked assets available on the hub, which was built for Global Dollar-related liquidity. The post frames the move as part of Aave DAO’s longer-term goal of making the platform a primary onchain venue for assets connected to the Global Dollar Network.
What syrupUSDG is
syrupUSDG is a yield-bearing token from Maple Finance. Maple said the product launched on Ethereum on July 2, 2026, in partnership with Paxos and Global Dollar Network, which are identified in the proposal as the issuers of Global Dollar, or USDG.
Under the structure described in the post, eligible users deposit USDG and receive syrupUSDG in return. The token is liquid and transferable, and its value is designed to reflect the returns it accrues over time rather than paying out yield as a separate distribution.
The proposal states that the yield comes from Maple’s institutional lending activity. Maple lends to vetted institutional borrowers on an overcollateralized basis, according to the post. It also cites Maple figures showing more than $22 billion in loans originated since 2022 and $4 billion in assets under management.
Structure and transparency claims
The forum post says syrupUSDG operates through a separate legal vehicle called Maple USDG Segregated Portfolio 1. That structure, it says, provides legal separation from Maple’s other Syrup products and institutional pools.
It also states that loan, allocation and reserve data can be verified onchain through Maple’s Proof of Reserves. Those details are presented in the proposal as part of the case for adding the asset to Aave with collateral functionality enabled.
Why Aave says the asset fits the hub
The proposal argues that listing syrupUSDG would let users borrow against a USDG-based position while that position continues accruing yield tied to Maple’s lending operations. It also says the addition would broaden USDG utility on Aave beyond the base stablecoin by bringing in a productive version of the asset.
Aave Labs further argues that the move could support demand from institutional participants entering DeFi and enlarge the asset base of the existing Aave V4 liquidity venue focused on USDG-related assets.
The post includes a disclaimer stating that Aave Labs prepared the proposal as a contributor to the Aave ecosystem and has no direct financial relationship with Maple Finance, Paxos or their affiliates. It also says Aave Labs did not receive compensation from either party in connection with the proposal.
The next steps listed in the forum thread are community and service provider feedback followed by an AIP vote for final confirmation and enforcement. The approved Telegram summary identified the measure as AIP #508 and said voting was set to begin in less than 12 hours.
